What is the UndergroundScene?

The UGS started off as a local music site promoting unsigned musicians in the North East of Scotland but has, in its 4 years since launch, stretched to cover the whole of Scotland and some parts of England and continues to grow today.

The site has always had a DIY mentality and this has been largely true over the past four years, only recently resorting to ads to help keep the site afloat.

Who Started It?

The website was started in it's first incarnation by three students back in 2000 as an experiment to guage the popularity and the presence of the local music community in the city of Dundee. Since then it has grown exponentially and evidence suggests that local music communities in all major cities in Scotland are alive and well.

How is the site paid for?

The site is kept alive through donations from guests and members to the site as well as local sponsorship from those involved in local music and/or the local music community. Through these donations the site manages to meet its financial obligations while providing an excellent resource to musicians and artists and their followers.
